Catney One® provides veterinarians another option to combat phosphate absorption, a key challenge in maintaining feline kidney health
Overland Park, Kansas (May 13, 2025) — Dechra today announces the U.S. launch of Catney® One, a unique health supplement designed to support feline kidney health by reducing phosphate absorption. According to a recent report1, kidney health is one of the top three conditions that drives feline vet visits. Cats with kidney health concerns may not have the ability to properly process phosphorus in their diet. Catney® One gives veterinarians and pet owners a new option that is ideal for cats that need to avoid additional calcium.
“The launch of Catney® One is another milestone for Dechra on our journey to become the leader in specialty care,” says Laura Olsen, President, Dechra North America. “By equipping veterinarians and pet owners with a new tool to maintain cats’ kidney health, we are advancing care for one of the most common reasons pet owners are bringing their cats to the veterinarian.”
The Science Behind Catney® One: Catney® One is a health supplement that brings a new and exciting ingredient to the battle against phosphorus, Lanthanum Carbonate. It is designed specifically to bind phosphate in the gut and help limit its absorption into the bloodstream.
"I often have to carefully prioritize medications and supplements for feline patients due to administration challenges or patients refusing food with a supplement mixed in,” says Ashlie Saffire DVM, Diplomate ABVP (Feline Practice.) “Having a phosphate binder that is easy to give not only benefits the patients, but also helps preserve the human-animal bond by alleviating the stress associated with managing feline health care."
Catney® One contains 457mg of Lanthanum Carbonate per stick pack, which binds phosphate in both acidic and alkaline environments, helping reduce its absorption into the bloodstream. It is packaged in a daily dose packet and is designed to be given at mealtime, offering convenience for pet owners and supporting compliance.
Catney® One is ideal for cats that need to avoid additional calcium. Some patients may be at risk of having too much calcium in their blood (hypercalcemia). In those cases, a phosphate binder like Catney® One is a new option. While Catney® One is a supplement and does not require a prescription, it is important to consult your veterinarian before use.
Catney® One will be available for purchase in June 2025.
